What a day porter is actually for
The case for daytime attendance is presentation between cleans and response during hours. Washrooms in a busy corporate building do not stay presentable from an evening clean until the next one. Meeting rooms need resetting, spills need attention while they are still minor, entry glass collects marks by mid-morning, and kitchen areas deteriorate quickly around lunch on a full floor. By late afternoon the building can look untended even though the previous night's clean was completed properly.
None of that is captured by an evening schedule, however good it is. So the question is not whether the work exists but whether its volume justifies dedicated hours. In a lightly occupied building it does not, and the money is better spent on frequency. In a heavily used one, daytime attendance is usually cheaper than the alternative of a second full clean. Deciding this on evidence rather than preference is what keeps the line defensible at budget time.
